Pelvic Pain
Pain located in the pelvis can limit your ability to participate in physical activities and can dramatically impact relationships by interfering with sexual function. It can be a symptom of degeneration of the lumbar spine, sacroiliac or hip joints. Also, abdominal and pelvic organs can cause pain due to trauma, surgery, chronic inflammation or an infection. Sources of pain also include the bladder, nonreproductive internal organs, muscles, nerves, and connective tissues in the pelvis.
Both female and male reproductive organs in the pelvic area, can be damaged and result in a chronic pain syndrome. Chronic pain can arise due a distant pelvic floor injury such as childbirth or trauma.
The majority of our patients have a history of trauma or surgery. Some have a pathology of the skeletal system, including the lumbar spine, hip, and sacroiliac joints. We work closely with our colleagues in Orthopedics, OBGYN, Urology and Gastroenterology to be sure there are no untreated medical or surgical diseases to formulate the best plan for the treatment of your pain.
Whether you have intermittent pain or constant, unremitting pain in your buttocks, hip, or groin we will pursue an accurate diagnosis and develop a treatment plan to hopefully achieve your best possible outcome.
