Treatments

We are committed to providing the highest level of care to those with chronic pain through a comprehensive approach to treatment.

The Redding Pain Medicine team utilizes leading-edge techniques to accurately diagnose and treat the underlying cause of your condition rather than just the symptoms.

Our focus is on decreasing or eliminating your chronic pain while restoring you to normal function. Once we have accurately diagnosed your condition, we can proceed with a treatment plan comprised of one or more of our innovative options.

Below, you’ll find more information about the treatment options we offer and how they can help you get your life back from chronic pain.

back pain

Overview of Treatments

We utilize treatment options like the Discseel® Procedure, diagnostic injections, therapeutic injections, radiofrequency lesioning, neuromodulation, vertebroplasty/kyphoplasty, and intrathecal pumps to provide you with lasting relief from your pain. Click on the links below to learn more about each treatment option.

The Discseel® Procedure

The Discseel® Procedure

The Discseel® Procedure is a naturally derived, non-surgical, and minimally invasive procedure designed to treat chronic back and neck pain caused by damaged or torn spinal discs, also known as annular tears. This is an effective alternative to spinal fusion that has provided many patients with significant relief from their pain without limiting their mobility or requiring a long recovery.

Precision Injection Therapy

Diagnostic Injection

Diagnostic injection is used to help make an accurate diagnosis of your pain. Using an image-guided precision injection, we can refine your diagnosis and improve the probability of successful treatment. Diagnostic injections can be an important part of the process of effectively treating a pain condition by helping us pinpoint the specific cause of your pain.

Therapeutic Injection

The goal of therapeutic injections is to relieve chronic pain and inflammation. These injections are usually administered to patients dealing with acute or chronic pain who have been unable to get relief from conservative treatment options. After an injection, you’ll likely feel immediate relief followed by a slow-release treatment over the course of the next several weeks or months.

Radiofrequency Lesioning

Radiofrequency Lesioning

Radiofrequency lesioning involves using an electrode that generates heat and a powerful magnetic field to stop nerves from sending out pain signals. This procedure is safe enough to be used in the central and peripheral nervous systems. This is typically an outpatient procedure that allows patients to return home the same day.

Neuromodulation Therapy

Neuromodulation Therapy

Neuromodulation is the alteration or modulation of nerve activity using radio signals to block or modify pain. This can be used to treat a wide range of conditions, and although it was previously used largely for severe pain, it can now be used to treat moderate pain as well.

Spinal Cord Stimulators (SCS) (DRG)

A spinal cord stimulator uses electrodes and a small generator to provide stimulation that masks or interrupts pain signals before they can reach the brain. SCS is typically used after other treatment options have failed to provide pain relief. These devices can treat chronic pain felt in the back, legs, feet and a combination of these or other areas.

Vertebroplasty/Kyphoplasty

Vertebroplasty/Kyphoplasty

These procedures are sometimes used to treat  fractures in your spine’s vertebrae, which can cause chronic pain or spine deformity.  Treatment is indicated for severe pain causing medical complications, chronic pain if not improving at 8 weeks and to attempt correction of certain deformities. These fractures are usually caused by osteoporosis or other medical problems that require active treatment to reduce the risk of further fractures.

Intrathecal Pump

Intrathecal Pump

Sometimes called a pain pump or implanted intrathecal drug delivery system (IDDS), an intrathecal pump is an implanted device that delivers medication directly to your spinal cord fluid in the intrathecal space. The goal of an intrathecal pump is to interrupt pain signals from nerves and abnormal muscle contractions. Delivering medication directly to the spinal fluid provides greater pain relief with lower doses than is required from pills or injections.

Regenerative Treatment

Regenerative Treatment

Regenerative treatment refers to treatment options that use your body’s natural healing factors to assist it in healing and restoring itself. These options are typically used in areas of the body that have difficulty or cannot heal themselves without assistance, such as spinal discs. These treatments are non-surgical and minimally invasive.

Minimally Invasive Surgery

MILD® Procedure

The mild procedure is a minimally invasive option for patients dealing with lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) who have not gotten adequate relief from conservative treatment options. This procedure treats a common underlying cause of LSS by restoring space in the spinal canal and reducing pressure on spinal nerves. This is an outpatient procedure that can typically be performed in less than an hour and requires only a tiny incision. mild® is FDA-cleared and does not require general anesthesia, implants, stitches, steroids, or opioids.

The Veriflex™ Procedure

The Vertiflex Procedure was designed for the treatment of lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS). It is a clinically proven and minimally invasive option that has been shown to provide long-term relief from LSS pain. This is an FDA-approved procedure that relieves spinal stenosis pain by adding space between the vertebrae. The Vertiflex Procedure is an option for patients who have failed to get relief from conservative options like medication and injections but may not be a candidate for spine surgery.

Minuteman® Procedure

The Minuteman system is an inter-spinous spacer and fusion device used to fuse and stabilize the thoracic, lumbar, and sacral spine. This is a minimally invasive procedure designed to be attached to the back of the spine and for use with bone graft material placed within the device. This procedure helps patients suffering from back or leg pain caused by spine conditions like degenerative disc disease, spondylolisthesis, tumors, or trauma.
